For Chapter 7: Imagining the Future, these are some of the analysis:
"When asked to imagine the future, both boys and girls wrote on two common subjects which typically make up three-quarter of their posts –
- the dream job they will undertake and earning money
- the family they will be having
1. It is a surprise that although the question did not asked bloggers directly to imagine their future jobs, ALL of the bloggers actually mentioned about it!"
"But youths choose to interpret “who will you be” with job/work. In the mind of the youths, “Who will you be” and their job/work are basically connected with each other. It is as though their dream job represents their identity. That’s their inherent way of interpreting it."
Hmmm... very true. But, what else is there to be imagined? Life = work. Work for retirement. I dont think we know anything else.
"Regardless of gender, there’s a very subtle pattern which exist in the opinions of youths when asked to imagine how their future family will look like. One group of people see their future family as a ‘package’ - wife, children and family come in basically one …. package. There’s another group of people who want to find a ‘dream partner’ and this ‘dream partner’ will be the catalyst to kick start a ‘perfect family’. Based on my hypothesis, I deduced that
a. People who are independent and active will see family comes in a package. They lump wife and children together and just dream of a nice family.
b. People who are dependent and passive will focus more to ‘fantasize’ their future husband/wife along first then only their ideal family."
I've been categorized to be in group a btw. Must have shown in my writings, hehe.
"The theory here is simple – independent and active people know what they want and tend to control things around them. Having a great partner will be good but not absolutely necessary for them as they could firmly manage things without needing the partner’s help.
On the other hand, dependent and passive people already give in to the fact that they will be reliant on their partner to settle things out for them in the future, hence explains why a ‘great’ partner is essential for them and drive to keep fantasizing ‘dream’ husband/wife."
You know what? No comment.
